Monday, 29 March 2010
Geoff Hudson and Mike Hubbert were both crowned Legends of Melbourne Street Orienteering recently when they completed 1000 Street-O events since the start of this millennium (1st Jan, 2009).
 Mike Hubbert - Legend
Geoff reached the milestone on Monday 2nd November, 2009 at the Mulgrave event of the Southern Summer Series and Mike achieved the feat on Tuesday 17th November, 2009 at the Kensington event of the Western Summer Series.
THE MILLENNIUM CLUB acknowledges sustained participation in Melbourne Street Orienteering by inducting street-orienteers into the club as members according to events completed. Currently, 27 orienteers are Associate members having completed at least 500 events and 15 orienteers are Companion members who have completed at least 750 events. Geoff and Mike are the first Legend members.
The significance of Geoff and Mike’s efforts can be realized by understanding that they maintained an average participation rate of 2 or 3 events per week for 10 years. They continue to embrace Street-O events with exuberance and commitment usually associated with younger participants and can always be observed at the completion of events conducting detailed analysis of the map and in depth comparison of courses.
Both Legends have always taken an active involvement in the development and administration of Orienteering. Currently, Geoff is Secretary of the Victorian Orienteering Association and Mike is the editor of the Australian Orienteering Magazine.
Congratulations to Geoff and Mike on a wonderful achievement and The Millennium Club welcomes them as its first two Legend members.
Formal presentations will be made to all new and upgraded members at an annual Millennium Club Dinner to be held during the Autumn Street-O Series in 2010. Street orienteers who have completed more than 100 events can view their up-to-date number of Street-O events on The Millennium Club web-page in the Park&Street menu at www.vicorienteering.asn.au/
