Winter Classic -A great success!
Monday, 16 May 2011
The concept of having 4 events over the one weekend proved to be a real winner. Pierre-at the end of the day-a final check!
The Friday Street O in Castlemaine -despite the rigorous conditions-attracted a field of 28, who thoroughly enjoyed this "first ever" event, set by Mattthew King.
Bruce and Suzanne- getting the facts sorted?.
The Middle Distance and Sprint events set by Geoff Adams and Tim Hatley were very well attended and met with many positive comments from competitors. A great use of both maps.
Both events were held with not a drop of rain, and mostly sunny skies. The bush was at its brilliant best-fresh and open.. The saturday night dinner was very well attended and we were made welcome by our hosts at the Cumberland Hotel-A private room- fast service- good meals and a great ambience. Certainly worth another visit.. The State event at Glenluce went without a hitch. With the courses set by Matthew King. with Don Fell as controller, the club received may accolades for good courses, using the map to its full potential, with many compettors relishing the challenges presented.. From the club point of view this weeked gave us a chance to come together as a club and I think everyone enjoyed the chance of experiencing the socail aspect and the oportunity to pesent a multi event program for the orienteering community. All in all it was a great effort. Thank you to so many members for working so easily to fill all the myriad tasks that need attention in events of this nature. Dave and Phil-State of the art car parking.
A measure of the weekend was the collection of controls-usuallly a drawn out chore left to a few. We had everythig collected and packed up by .4 pm. Quite an achievememt.
The Winter Classic trophy winners were Laurinna Newmann and Bruce Arthur.
Laurinna Neumann and Bruce Arthur with multiple winner of the trophy-Eddie Wymer.
