A swimmingly good time
Sunday, 15 August 2010
Lake Eppalock is 18% full - and on Sunday we got to experience first-hand some of the weather conditions contributing to this.
It was a chilly start to State Series 7 at Eppalock South with a misty rain over the hills. But by 10.30 the rain had stopped and competitors squelched their way from one control to another.

Judy, Aislinn and Roch Prendergast
Some had a good run and thought it was a bit easy (which it would have been, if you could find all the controls). Aislinn Prendergast whipped around course 4 in 45 minutes, beating her father Roch by more than 8 minutes, then felt like another run, so went out on course 6 as well.
Others of us found it a little more difficult. Somehow straight-lining the course didn't seem to be be so straight in the execution; features (hmm, was that a gully?!) were elusive; and some of us neglected to check the scale - 1:15,000, oops - and found it an awfully long way from one control to another.

But all in all, a great day in the bush.

Ted with the Finish crew
And thanks to Ted van Geldermalsen for setting an interesting course in a subtle landscape and to Matt Schepisi for controlling... even though I'm sure he put my control 2 in the wrong place and that's why it took me so long to find it (well, that's my excuse, anyway, Matt!!)
